EDITORIAL: Will we ever end AIDS for good?

November 25, 2022

World AIDS Day is coming up on December 1. We have come far from the scares of the early 1980’s when the then US Surgeon General, C Everett Koop, came on our television sets and told us that HIV/AIDS was a serious disease that could affect anyone, anywhere.

I remember watching that special message, some time in the 1980’s. I don’t even remember the year, but it had to be in the early 1980’s. I don’t even think Rock Hudson, the famous US television actor had passed away from the disease, let alone basketball superstar Magic Johnson coming out, confirming he had the deadly virus.

But, the AIDS virus is controllable now. There are medicines out there that people can use to make themselves more comfortable with in dealing with the disease. But, I hope in my lifetime, we find a cure once and for all for the disease.

Some have said it is a man-made disease, which I am not qualified enough to say yes or no. But, I do know one thing, almost anything biological has an antidote or cure from a natural source. Everything except for AIDS. Even cancer has natural cures and treatments.

Even so, we must remember that it is still out there and people are still contracting it, although not at the un-Godly levels of the 1980’s when people refused to use protection.

Let’s pray for the end of this epidemic and a new cure ends if all.
