A Trinidadian author launches a new book detailing how to fight back against life’s problems using scripture as your weapon.
Shellyann Patrick, told Caribbean Magazine Plus that she was inspired to write this second book, “Fight Back,” after she “cried her eyes out,” after having encountered obstacles with getting her message out.
The book was completed in 2021 and after having launched this past weekend, there is such a relief, but not as much excitement as with her first book, “The Thief that Stole my Time,” because with her inaugural book “everything happened quickly,” and she didn’t have a lot of time to assess all of her emotions.
But, with this second book, she had ample time to find her range of emotions after having a tumultuous time trying to get her message out to who needed to hear it.
She said: “I was dealing with obstacle upon obstacle and I started writing it out of a place of frustration and I relinquished everything and I was just in tears one day and was just tired and fed up.”
She continued, “I went to bed early one night after crying my eyes out and got up the following morning and said that I’m not going to roll over and take this. I’m going to fight back on my knees.”
The obstacles ranged from financial difficulties in addition to trying to determine if it was God speaking to her rather than her ego. “I got so many confirmations that it was the Lord speaking to me and Fight Back had a lot to do with spiritual warfare and I questioned myself if I was equipped to write a book on this topic?”
Fighting back on her knees is what Shellyann proceeded to do as she went into solemn prayer until she was asked to minister in her church and the “message” in her heart was to “fight back.” She added: “Fight back means with faith, fight back means with prayer, fight back with worship, fight back with his promises, fight back with love and fight back with these different elements that the Bible gave us.”
From her short message to her congregation, she crafted this follow up book to complement her inaugural book, “The Thief that stole my Time,” and is now looking to capitalise on the fruits of her labour. “Everything you couldn’t say in a 50 minute sermon, you can say it in a book
Ms Patrick also said: “I actually finished writing the book in 2021 and it took forever to come out but we finally launched this past Saturday.
“If it was up to me I would have launched in 2021, but in one month in 2023 everything happened.”
The bookstore where Fight Back is being sold asked Ms Patrick if they can do the launch of her book at their store, but she was still questioning whether she was ready and she finally decided to just go ahead with the launch this past Saturday.
Fight Back can be found in R.I.K Bookstores around Trinidad and is also being launched on Amazon.
