Jude Elie, Haitian Presidential candidate was an honored guest at the House of Lords, in London on Friday April 22, being invited by Lord Raj Loomba.

Lord Rajinder Paul Loomba, Baron Loomba, CBE is a philanthropist, founder and executive chairman of clothing company Loomba Group, and a member of the House of Lords of Great Britain.

Mr Elie was a special guest of honor, and he was first honored with the turban wrapping ceremony. Afterwards, Lord Raj Loomba presented Mr Elie with one of the most prestigious Indian Award: the Bharat Gaurav Samman.

The Bharat Gaurav Samman is a most coveted award, offered by Confluence and the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture of the Government of India: Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi. It is presented to felicitate personalities whose excellence in their fields is recognized.

Although Haiti is quite ensconced within the Francophonie, Mr Elie believes that reaching out to the Commonwealth nations will be of great benefit for the development of Haiti. As such, where best to start than in England and wooing the biggest Commonwealth nation, India.

Most of Haiti’s need for New Technologies to achieve the 30 years leap forward can be garnered from India. A bilateral agreement with India on general Health will also be greatly beneficial to Haiti, since India, today, is the largest supplier of generic drugs to the world.

For Haiti to have a sustained and lasting development, we must invest heavily in renewable energies. India can help us achieve this goal.

Today, India ranks third in renewable energy country attractive index. India has set an ambitious target to achieve a capacity of 175 GW worth of renewable energy by the end of 2022. This is the world’s largest expansion plan in renewable energy.

Mr Elie’s speech for the occasion was heart touching. It was a very emotional moment when Mr Elie said that Haiti is my mother, and I am the child of Haiti.

We are gearing up to Regain Haiti’s Pride and remake a Strong Nation.
