Twelve months have passed since the four southern provinces of Haiti have been cut-off from the rest of the nation, by gang violence. Compounding this abominable state of affairs, a devastating earthquake severely damaged the southern presque-isle of Haiti.
In order to help alleviate this sense of despair and hopelessness felt by many, Jude ELIE decided to bring to Haiti former NBA stars in the Sportspower International platform. Their mission is to change the lives of people who are hurting, encourage people to make right choices in life, and bring a message of hope to everyone across the world.
Once landed in Cap-Haitian, Jude ELIE and his organization ensured three days successful stay of Sportspower’s first visit to Haiti. To start with, Sportspower held a basketball clinic for the youths of Cap-Haitian at their Gymnasium the morning of Saturday May 28. A Sunday morning fantastic appearance at the Tabernacle of Praise, which lasted for 3 hours was attended by almost five thousand worshippers of Christ.
Pastor Bill Alexson and his platform seized every opportunity to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ during their trip, visiting at least 5 different churches.
The formal game started at 5PM on Sunday May 29th and lasted until 9PM. The Haitian team was an amalgam of their best national players, all eager to test their mettle against the US stars.
Among the retired US players who made the four-day trip are David Wood, who played alongside Michael Jordan for the Chicago Bulls in 1988, former Orlando Magic shooting guard Wesley Fluellen, ex-Golden State Warriors center Mamadou N’diaye and former Houston Rockets shooting guard Jermaine Taylor.
All activities stopped in the great city of Cap-Haitian as the game was being played in front of 5,000 sport-fans at their Gymnasium. Another 5,000 fans listened outside the Gymnasium vying to enter the already packed local. The final score was 67 to 63 in favor of the American Team.
Jude ELIE and Bill Alexon acted as Master of Ceremonies during the game, also attended by the city’s officials. A short sermon followed by a prayer at half-time, blessed our participation and opened the way for more hope and optimism in the future of Haiti.
