The Bahia Principe Grand Tulum in Mexico reopens after undergoing a year of renovations in the midst of the COVID-19 induced tourism shutdown.
Helen Montijano, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the U.S. and Canada, Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, told Caribbean Magazine Plus: “We are very excited to finally have Bahia Principe Grand Tulum open again following over a year of extensive renovations. As Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts flagship property when the brand first arrived to Mexico over 20 years ago, the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum has been completely transformed, now placing its Mayan origin front and centre as it merges seamlessly into the beautiful natural environment.”
She also said visitors can now expect from the areas’, “natural fauna that melds perfectly with the Mayan inspired architecture to the display of rich cultural traditions and preservation of the land, every element has been taken into consideration to introduce this new experience. Guests will be impressed upon arrival with the ode to the Mayan origin that can be seen immediately in the grand breezy lobby where a massive pillar stands in the centre adorned in symbols and engravings of the historic civilization. Similar accents can be found on the facades of structures throughout the resort, a continuous reminder of the origin of the land.”
“The guestrooms, which are available in four categories, boast a soothing neutral colour palette and textures that are inspired by the earth and surrounding nature. Each room includes upgraded amenities and a sitting area that creates a relaxing home away from home feel.”
Ms Montijano added: “Bahia Principe Grand Tulum’s culinary offering offers everything from delectable traditional Mexican staples to spices from the Far East. Each space of the seven dining venues, be it casual or gourmet, has been carefully created so that the gastronomy experience is enhanced by its beautifully designed surroundings. Guests can choose from the Yucatan Buffet, Hindu Thai Restaurant, Gourmet Don Pablo, Mexicano Tequila, Restaurant Rodizio La Gran Tortuga, The Truck Beach Restaurant, Andale Burger, and La Isla Bar.”
“The resort also features an expansive Kids Zone named Zama, which was the original name of Tulum’s walled city, features numerous activity areas where children can learn about the Mayan culture through play, archaeology, and exploration. There are ten dedicated spaces for hours of fun including: a Kids Club, with indoor and outdoor areas for activities, picnics, shows and more; a sand area to tease curious discoverers who can uncover Mayan artifacts; a playground for the little ones to explore the Mayan jungle; an open-air space for the Eco Bahia Foundation that brings children closer to the natural wealth of the area; the Jungle park with zip lines, tunnels, slides and more; and the Iguana, a massive emblematic structure of one the areas historic species where children can climb, slide and explore. The water spaces include the Cenote that meanders through the jungle, a Splash area with jets and games, and finally an amazing Water Park with giant Mayan masks and endless fun for everyone.”
“In addition, the resort features three pools, a beach area, a relaxing spa with outdoor palapas for treatments alfresco, numerous green spaces and trails, water and land recreational activities, a fully equipped fitness centre, shopping area, and a discotheque.”
“There is truly something for everyone at the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum,” said Ms Montijano.
Bookings at the resort have not yet picked up pace with Ms Montijano telling is, “While travel is not yet in full-swing as it was before the pandemic, we are seeing more reservations for the upcoming months and expect an increase in the second and third semester of the year.”
She also said that, “This is important for travellers from the U.S. and Canada to know is that we are facilitating on-site COVID-19 testing with local laboratories and clinics to make the process more seamless for our guests who need to meet these new requirements. These arrangements should be made upon arrival with the Front Desk.”
