A National Labour Committee would help boost local and regional employment, helping to support Guyana’s continued economic growth, suggested the CEO of a Caribbean recruitment firm.
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. is a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad. The group’s CEO, Joseph Boll, said it is looking forward to the committee’s success.
“We know it’s still in the early stages of planning and discussion, but it seems to be a great way to help improve employment in the country,” said Boll. “A National Labour Committee would certainly help to address labour gaps and ensure that every participant in the labour force has easy, equal access to job opportunities and skills training that would fill specific needs. Caribbean Employment Services supports the idea and hopes to work with such a committee in the future, if it is indeed successfully launched.”
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. noted that the discussions surrounding a labour committee come as Guyana is expected to face labour shortages in the near future. Dubbed the fastest-growing economy in the world for 2022, the country is expected to need 160,000 more workers to keep up with its economic boom. Global labour organizations have noted that Guyana likely does not have enough workers to keep up with this boom, and that even with programmes to boost employment, the country will likely need to recruit foreign workers to help supplement labour gaps.
“It seems the government is aware of this, as its plan is for a National Labour Committee to also look into recruiting foreign workers,” Boll noted. “We can certainly help with this, as a firm that specializes in digital talent acquisition both locally and internationally. As Guyana looks to bring in more workers in the country and overseas throughout the Caribbean, they can use services like ours to help streamline the process and tap into a wider talent pool.”
Caribbean Employment Services Inc. has worked with government agencies both in the region and internationally, with notable clients including Sandals Resorts, the UK’s NHS Professionals and more.
“We hope for an opportunity to work with Guyana’s public and private sector to help get more people employed, and we look forward to the success of the National Labour Committee, if formed, or similar initiatives to help people access high-quality job opportunities.”
