The Caribbean Literary Conference held this June 3-5 was a stunning success and put on spotlight on Caribbean storytelling luminaries.
Caribbean Magazine Plus was also featured at this year’s event it had a segment hosted by Dr Nicola Hunte, Professor in English literature from the University of the West Indies on June 3, who spoke candidly to the winners of the inaugural CMP Short Story Contest, 2022.
Dr Hunte was an amazing host and an even better evaluator for the entries. You can read more of their short stories here. She said about the contest: “Firstly, it is to provide an opportunity for new or emerging writers from the region. Secondly, it’s to spotlight the diversity of the Caribbean, especially its many voices speaking in several languages.”
The CARICON, held annually, has become a must attend for any author from the Caribbean who has any interest in taking their talents further than just our shallow rocks and reefs. The CARICON was held in Los Angeles and was a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual elements.
The event’s creator, Steve Russell, has grown by leaps and bounds with the event and plans to keep the event hybrid to ensure that as many people from the diaspora have a chance to attend.
