Sub-Regional Biodiversity Dialogue and Workshop at Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and the Secretariat for the Convention on Biological Diversity will hold a sub-regional dialogue and workshop to discuss national strategies and action plans on biodiversity.

The event will be held in Georgetown, Guyana from 15 – 19 April 2024. The Hon. Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources of Guyana, will deliver the feature address at the opening on Monday 15 April 2024. Dr. Carla Barnett, CARICOM Secretary-General will deliver remarks. The opening will also feature remarks by Dr. David Cooper, Acting Executive Secretary for the Convention on Biological Diversity; Mr. Gerardo Noto, UNDP Resident Representative and United Nations Resident Coordinator a.i; and Dr. Renata Clarke, Sub-Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean, Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. Mr. Joseph Cox, CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General, Economic Integration, Innovation and Development, will chair the programme.

About the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity:

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is based in Montreal, Canada. It was established to support the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity which was signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, and entered into force on 29 December 1993. The Secretariat’s primary functions are to organize meetings, prepare reports, assist member governments in the implementation of the various programmes of work, coordinate with other international organizations and collect and disseminate information.
