Roy T. Anderson, award-winning filmmaker, is bringing his latest film, “African Redemption: The Life and Legacy of Marcus Garvey” to the 30th annual Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles (April 19 – May 1, 2022). On Saturday, April 30, the Jamaica Cultural Alliance, a Los Angeles based cultural organization will host a reception and screening in honor of the occasion.
Marcus Garvey, famed Jamaican Black Nationalist, emerged as the world’s foremost civil rights leader during the height of the Harlem Renaissance (1918-1930). In this ground-breaking documentary Mr. Anderson chronicles the journey of this iconic yet controversial leader. Pan-Africanist Garvey spearheaded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), and dedicated his life to the mission of redeeming Africa.
Multiple Emmy-award winning actor Keith David (Greenleaf, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Crash) lends his voice as the narrator of this 85-minute feature-length docu-drama.
The Jamaican Cultural Alliance (JCA) is a Los Angeles 501(c) nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the best of Jamaica – its people and their multi-faceted lifestyles – in order to clarify and enhance the image of Jamaica and the Caribbean at large. As part of this mission, JCA highlights and celebrates those Jamaicans who make indelible footprints in their journey throughout the world.
Filmed in the USA, Jamaica, Ghana, Canada, UK, and Costa Rica, this documentary blends live-action sequences and stunning still photographs with no-holds-barred interviews that shed a new light on Marcus Garvey’s legacy.
