UPDATE: TS Bret Hovering over Barbados, TS Cindy right behind it!

June 23, 2023

Tropical Storm Bret crashed into Barbados overnight and sent waves lashing the coastline. Bret has been moving in a North-Western path since Monday and was projected to become a Category 1 Hurricane on Thursday, but so far forecasters have it still as a Tropical Storm as it further creeps its way to the Caribbean sea.

Bret is expected to remain over Barbados for the rest of the day until Saturday midday when it is expected to dissipate in the Caribbean sea.

“On the forecast track, the centre of Bret will continue moving westward away from the Windward Islands and across the eastern and central Caribbean Sea during the next couple of days,” the National Hurricane Centre said. “Weakening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Bret is expected to dissipate over the central Caribbean Sea by Saturday night or Sunday.

“Grantly Adams International Airport on Barbados recently reported a sustained wind of 44 mph (70 km/h) and a gust to 56 mph (91 km/h) in thunderstorm activity well to the east of Bret’s centre. Tropical storm conditions are also still being reported on St. Lucia and Martinique,” warned the NHC.

Isolated rain totals of 10” are possible from Guadeloupe south to St Vincent and the Grenadines and east to Barbados.

Tropical Storm Cindy remains a weak tropical storm, located roughly 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

The storm has begun it’s shift to the north and is expected to miss the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola completely.
