Washington DC-based Dancehall producer Germaine ‘Tungie’ Nunes from Konection Entertainment LLC cops first top 5 hit on the US iTunes Reggae Singles Chart with his latest release called “Twerk”. The track, which features the vocals of the Billboard Kid himself, Xyclone, has already been a favorite among female listeners all over social media since its release on August 23, 2024. Charting on iTunes now is a mere reflection of the tracks popularity thus far.
Chin Powa, Queen Chipster and Shelly Belly are just a handful of popular influencers who have made videos to “Twerk”. Bobby Konders from Massive B has it in heavy rotation on New York’s Hot97 radio station. Xyclone will also be including the song on his forthcoming EP, The Sounds of Gambia.
“Twerk” is an explicitly hardcore dancehall track for the ladies making the rounds on TikTok especially, with an instructional theme for females taken from a public platform of an unknown female choreographer in the introduction. So it’s no surprise that it debuted at number 29 on Friday, September 20. It quickly shot up the chart and broke into the top 10 in a matter of hours. “Twerk” peaked at number 5 and settled at number 6 by day’s end.
When asked by this writer how it felt to have a production of his effectively chart for the first time, Tungie modestly replied, “Great feeling and humble at the same time.” The producer attributes his success to God, saying, “God is good,” for blessing him with this opportunity. The significance of this moment will forever be embedded in his memory.
