US president Joe Biden announced that his government will implement a mandatory quarantine for all incoming visitors to the US, including returning citizens on Thursday.
This move will kill Caribbean tourism efforts, especially heavily tourism dependent countries. Persons may fear that American tourists, by far the larger traveller marker in the world, would put off travelling if they have to quarantine for any length of time from their vacation. The thinking is when they are done with vacation they would have to return to work and it would cause significant challenges with their employers.
This move comes on the heels of a recently published travel trends guide from KOALA, where they said the Caribbean and Central American countries held five of the top 10 spots on the most frequently searched countries that Americans have interest in visiting in 2021.
The Biden administration has not given any details on how long this proposed quarantine will be. Neither have they said when it will come into effect exactly.
